On June 23, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei met with Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade of Jamaica Anthony Hylton. Hylton said bilateral ties have become more mature with deepening political trust and ever closer economic and trade cooperation. The one-China policy is supported by the Jamaican political parties, he said, reiterating Jamaica's adherence to the policy. Hylton said the Taiwan question is a domestic affair of China and should be resolved by Chinese themselves.

Agreeing with Hylton's comments on bilateral ties, He pointed out that China and Jamaica, both developing nations, share the same or similar views on the international situation. China is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Jamaica in international affairs to jointly safeguard lawful rights and interests of a large majority of developing countries, he said. Both sides also exchanged views on the development of small island countries, climate change and other issues.
