On the morning of August 23, 2007 local time, visiting Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei and Costa Rican Foreign Minister Bruno Stagnoon held the first political consultation meeting between the two countries. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations, as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

After their meeting, both sides signed a series of agreements on mutual visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders, the establishment of political consultation mechanism between the two Foreign Ministries and cooperation between the foreign affairs institutes of the two Foreign Ministries.
