Chinese President Hu Jintao participated in the dialogue between the leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum and representatives of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) in Sydney on the morning of September 8, 2007. At about 10:00 a.m. local time, Hu and leaders of other APEC members arrived at the Sydney Opera House where they were received by Australian Prime Minister John Howard. Then Hu, other APEC leaders and the ABAC representatives were divided into groups during their dialogue and exchanged views on issues of common concern. ABAC is a permanent agency of APEC with the major tasks of raising ideas and suggestions on trade and investment liberalization, economic and technological cooperation and the creation of a favorable business environment within APEC and submitting advisory report to APEC leaders and the ministerial meeting. ABAC holds a dialogue with APEC leaders annually during APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. After the dialogue APEC economic leaders attended a working luncheon. On the afternoon, the first session of the 15th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting kicked off and President Hu Jintao attended the meeting. With the theme of "Strengthening Our Community, Building a Sustainable Future" the meeting mainly discussed topics on climate change and clean development, regional economic integration, support for the Doha round of talks and trade and investment liberalization and facilitation. Prior to the meeting the leaders took group photos wearing the special dress of Australia. |
