On October 25, 2007, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai with Costa Rican President Oscar Arias Sanchez. Wen said the establishment of China-Costa Rica diplomatic ties in June had "opened a new chapter for bilateral relations", fulfilling the two peoples' long-cherished wish. It is conducive to expanding and deepening friendly cooperation between the two countries and will benefit both peoples, said Wen. Wen said that although the two countries forged diplomatic ties only five months ago, they have achieved preliminary results in exchanges and cooperation in all areas. The establishment of diplomatic ties, as a good beginning, has laid a solid foundation for the two countries to further relations. "I hope the two sides can step up efforts to implement existing agreements and expand cooperation, especially in the areas of mutual investment, science and technology, and tourism, based on the principles of equality and mutual benefits", Wen said. "China is full of confidence in the development of bilateral relations in the future", the Chinese Premier added. Wen finally emphasized that the two governments and peoples hold high expectations for the development of bilateral ties, expressing belief that with the joint efforts of both sides, the two countries will surely be able to push their friendly cooperative ties to one new level after another. Arias spoke highly of China's contribution to the alleviation of world poverty by its own economic and social development and rapid improvement of its people's livelihood. "China's experience is worth learning", the Costa Rican president said. He said that Costa Rica upholds free trade and has established a sound legal system to boost foreign investment, adding that the country also enjoys geographic advantages and high-quality labor force. "Costa Rica welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest and establish businesses there and to conduct mutually beneficial cooperation," Arias said, expressing belief that the development of bilateral ties will score more results. |
