On November 18, 2007, Chinese President Hu Jintao sent a telegraph to Bangladeshi President Iajuddin Ahmed on the heavy injury and loss of life and property caused by tropical storm hitting the southern coast of Bangladesh, extending deep sympathy and sincere condolence to President Iajuddin, the Bangladeshi government and the disaster-stricken people on behalf of the Chinese government and people and in his own capacity. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of President Iajuddin and the Bangladeshi government the people in the disaster-hit region would overcome the difficulties, resume the normal production and life and rebuild their home at the earliest date possible.

On the same day, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council also sent a condolence telegraph to Prime Minister Fakhruddin of the Bangladeshi caretaker government.
