On April 11, 2008, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with his Mongolian counterpart Nambaryn Enkhbayar in Sanya of south China's Hainan province. Hu said currently China-Mongolia ties have been developing very well with frequent high-level exchanges, deepening political trust and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation. He also praised rapidly growing bilateral trade, more active humanities exchanges, mutual understanding and support of each other on international and regional affairs and close coordination and cooperation between both sides. Hu pointed out that China had always attached great importance to developing relations with Mongolia, and was willing to work with the country to increase bilateral cooperation so as to benefit the two peoples. He proposed both sides maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges and increase mutual trust. China is ready to enhance cooperation with Mongolia among various departments at all levels, and make efforts to successfully hold activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of China-Mongolia diplomatic ties next year. Hu also called on both sides to strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation and consolidate mutually beneficial cooperation. He urged both sides to sign the medium-term development outline on economic and trade cooperation and the framework agreement on expanding and deepening economic and trade cooperation at an early date so as to better guide and promote relevant cooperation from a macroscopic perspective. Hu also called for intensifying cooperation in the areas of tourism, environmental protection, disaster prevention and youth exchange. The Chinese president suggested both sides expand cooperation in multilateral areas and promote common interests. China was ready to enhance coordination with Mongolia on major international issues, including regional cooperation and climate change, he added. Enkhbayar said the regular meetings between the leaders of the two countries and dialogue at all levels have played an important role in pushing forward bilateral good-neighborly partnership of mutual trust. He said Mongolia was firmly committed to developing stable good-neighborly, equal footing and mutually beneficial ties with China, calling on both sides to take the opportunity of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties, as well as the 15th anniversary of China-Mongolia Treaty on Friendly Cooperative Relations next year to further expand cooperation. Hailing the rapid growth of bilateral trade and investment cooperation, he said Mongolia hopes to work closely with China to fulfill large-scale cooperative programs on infrastructure construction, transport, energy and resources, and expand cultural, tourism, educational, youth and regional exchanges. Mongolia hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and other regional and international organizations, said Enkhbayar. He also reiterated Mongolia's adherence to the one-China policy. Enkhbayar extended congratulations to the country's great achievements in national construction since its reform and opening-up and wished China more achievements in economic and social development in the future. With regard to the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games, Enkhbayar said he was glad to attend its opening ceremony, expecting its full success. Hu expressed welcome and gratitude for that. Following the talks, the two presidents attended a signing ceremony of an agreement on economic and technological cooperation between the two countries.
