2008-04-13

On April 13, 2008, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met respectively with Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf and Chilean President Michelle Bachelet Jeria in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.

During his meeting with Kikwete, Wen said China and Tanzania respected and supported each other since establishment of diplomatic ties, and China treats Tanzania as its all-weather cooperative partner. The Chinese government will continue to provide aid for Tanzania's economic development within its capacity, and hopes to cooperate with Tanzania in expanding pragmatic cooperation, cultivating new growth points and consolidating and deepening China-Tanzania traditional friendly cooperative relations.

Kikwete said Tanzania cherishes the traditional friendly cooperation with China and is ready to deepen bilateral friendship and advance mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas. Noting China's precious support and assistance for Tanzania over the past years, Kikwete said the Tanzanian people look forward to the Olympic torch relay in Tanzania.

When meeting with Musharraf, Wen said the strategic cooperation between China and Pakistan has developed rapidly, safeguarding the common interests of the two sides and promoting regional peace and stability. Wen said China will actively participate in the infrastructure construction in Pakistan and encourage Chinese businesses to invest in and take new technologies and management experience to the country, in order to realize the sustainable development of cooperation. The two countries should also strengthen youth exchanges and implement plans on joint school-running so as to cement the social basis of bilateral ties and pass the friendship from generation to generation, Wen said.

In response, Musharraf said the Pakistani government and its people had strong wish to consolidate and develop the traditional friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, which is also a corner-stone of Pakistan's foreign policies. He noted that Pakistan will continue to maintain close high-level exchanges, advance bilateral free trade arrangement and deepen all-round cooperation in all areas, so as to fulfill the target of 15 billion U.S. dollars for the bilateral trade volume by 2011 and contribute to regional economic development.

During the meeting with Bachelet, Wen said the comprehensive cooperative partnership between China and Chile has maintained a good momentum, especially in the fields of trade and economy. He called on the two sides to make full use of favorable conditions brought by bilateral free trade agreement and achieve more progress in traditional cooperation areas such as mining and agriculture. Both sides should also explore new areas and ways of cooperation with a view to attaining better mutually beneficial and win-win results.

Bachelet said that great progress has been scored in bilateral ties since the two countries established diplomatic relations 38 years ago. China and Chile should cement strategic cooperation, promote exchanges in economy and trade to lift the bilateral ties to a new level. China has made tremendous achievements over past 30 years since its reform and opening up, she said, expressing wish for China's greater achievements.
