On June 5, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukerjee in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Yang hailed the comprehensive development of the China-India relationship, saying it was "at the best period of development in history", and faced "important strategic opportunities". He vowed to closely cooperate with the Indian side to strengthen exchanges and dialogue, expand economic and trade cooperation and consider the concerns of each other to promote the China-India strategic partnership of cooperation towards continuous progress. Yang also briefed the Indian guest on China's relief efforts for the May 12 massive earthquake in Sichuan Province and some other areas, and expressed his appreciation of the Indian government's donation and aid to the quake-hit area. Mukerjee said India attached great importance to developing the relation with China and was ready to work together to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries. This was in a bid to continuously enhance mutual friendship, trust and cooperation. Mukerjee spoke highly of China's relief efforts and progress, saying India would continue to provide necessary assistance to China. He reiterated the Indian government's persistent position on the Tibet question, adding that India would never tolerate any anti-China political activities by any Tibetan in the Indian territory. The two also exchanged views on some international and regional issues of common concern. |
